I changed jobs and got myself a new computer. So, my address changed with the new PC. I just decided to check out the BS page for a lark. Saw your inquiry about me. Didn't expect that! Hope all is well with you and the family. All the best for a great Holiday Season to you and your family, as well as to all my friends from the mid 60's Golden Knights. (For those of you who may not remember, I was in the snare line originally with Rocco Nardelli-my idol, mentor and friend!-and Bill Lundy. Later, played with George "Brownie" Brown and then the Hurley brothers.) Hope to hear from you soon, Tim. I hope I hear from any others who would like to send a hello. Later.....Bob |

Nappe Website: Referred by: Yahoo! From: Scottsdale, Az Time: 1999-11-06 01:14:24 Comments: What a great thrill is was to see this web page after all these years. It brought back many great memories. I haven't had any contact with the corp since I moved to Phoenix, Az in 1973. I played french horn in the '65 and '66 Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights, with 1966 being a very good year for us. Our record that year was 15 wins and 8 loses, with the highlight of the year being our great win in the National Dream Contest, over some real heavyweights that were in town for the VFW National Championship. The Dream Contest that year was basically a tune up for the VFW Nationals. The next greatest moment of that year for me was our performance in the American Legion Nationals in Washington DC. We all believed, in our hearts, that our performance on the field that night was excellent and definetly good enough to win, obviously the judges saw it differently, but it didn't change the fact that we had one of our very best performances all year. Keep up the good work and I hope I can get to see you if I get back east in the near future. Go Knights! |

My instructor was a past Blessed Sacrament drummer himself Marty Hurley. We also had one of your past drum instructors work with us that year Bobby Thompson. I grew up listening to BS albums all my years in Drum Corps from 1967-1972 and just wanted to say thanks for the memories. Please write back because I am currently in the Newark area on work related issues and would love to see a rehearsal or two. Thanks Again, Richard |

Sac, as we referred to you in the Philly area, was one of the all time greats in drum corps history. Todays corps dont hold a candle to the performances we gave in the hayday of Drum Corps. It gives me great pleasure to know some of our traditions are still observed. |

I was the cymbal player and my nickname was peanut. My Dad turned me on to this sight; and a great sight it is. I know it was almost thirty years ago, but until this day I'm still humming songs like: off the line with King of Kings, Hang'em High, Up on 110th Street, Eleanor Rigby, America the Beautiful, and of course, Free Again! I can still remember some of the guys like Bobby Craig, Pat on snare. Tony Sepe and Tom Brown on rudimentals, Big Matt on tenor drum. Bernard on the trips, Eric on Mellaphone, Chucky Helm on bass, Pat & Fran, the drum majors. This was one of the best times of my life and I'm glad to see the Knights are alive again. |

"In the Still of the Night" and the DB sound was something special, I concluded right away. About 1962, I was in the Woodsiders for one year, played baritone horn. It was the year that St Vincent's folded and a lot of their members joined Woodsiders. It was also the year that BS carried a flag incorrectly at NJ state preliminaries held in Bloomfield. All the other corps clamored to get BS disqualified from the finals in Wildwood; in fact, Woodsiders protested by not competing in the finals. Unfortunately, my dad said DB corps took up too much time, and pulled me out of it after just that one year. Moved away from NJ and the DB scene in 1964, and there is nothing to offer in the Wash DC area except the Marine DBC on Tuesday nights at Arlington Cemetery. My dad, by the way, went to all eight years at BS school, and then South Side High, but well before the DB Corps was started. |

This is really important to him - having his bugle soldered - so that he can continue his virtuoso career. In fact, I had so many bugles to solder in 1970 that Ruth went through the whole season FAKING it! (I know you are all shocked!) That's right...he had no corks in his spit valves, and his rotary was frozen shut. PLUS there were remnants of Boons Farm Apple Wine puke clogging his mouthpiece. We tried using Mulligan's chin to dislodge the sludge, but to no avail. Consequently, Ruth has been faking his bugle playing now for almost 30 years. Imagine our surprise! So next time I'm in Vegas, I'll bring my fix-it kit and put him back on the circuit. Best regards, Gary |

For the rest of us, here's a summary of the feedback I've received on the "line of Knights" in the last photo. That's Parsippany, NJ in June, 1969. We won two shows that day, the other in Randolph, NJ. The Knights are: Mike Coppola (Caveman), Earl Barnwell, Gary Dickelman (that's right, it was NEVER "DiNKelman" - but I digress); Charles Whalley, Mike Diaz, Arnold (last name?), Erich Schweikert, "Afro" (proper name, anyone??), probably Chuck Stoltz behind the flag, next unknown, Neil Powers. Yost Website: Referred by: Net Search From: Time: 1999-01-27 09:06:18 Comments: You're right. When I was with the alum. corps 90-91-92. Lovis was still playing Bari. He was awsome! I was amazed that Ed hadn't changed a bit...still cool and smooth...he made the sweetest sounds come out of that horn...his vibrato was as smooth as silk. It could put a crying baby to sleep or make a grown man cry! When I marched with him in the 60s he and O'Toole ran the Bari line with BABY JOHN. They kicked our buts in! I remember O'Toole screaming at me as we assembled at Wildwood to get my *&!!"[** Shako straight on my head. I think I paid for that later in another rash of PINK BELLY. Those guys were special to us rookies. We looked up to them as if they were GOLDEN GODS. They really took an interest in the corps and had no tolerance or sympathy for slackers. But I learned that it would take one or two rounds in the BEEHIVE and a march in the NATIONALS to become a golden knight and those guys we looked up to were really our older brothers...mentors, perhaps. We feared them and looked up to them at the same time. Anyway, I bought a new 3-valve horn in '91 which Ed purchased from me (at a bargain). I went on to Melophone. A quiet man, Ed played the horn just like he was back in the 67 corps. Elegant! Jim Yost |

Now most of you know that I usually don't have too much to say ("He was a quiet man !") unless I'm doing my Dr. Jackell/Mr. Hyde routine (Hyde's more fun), but being the mild mannered, reporter type, I thought I'd share a few observations with you. First, let me say that I was never in BS back in your heyday, but you guys were good, you won some shows, you won some titles, you won EVERYTHING. So, being from Bayonne, St. Andrew's was always number one (you know, hometown favorite, that kind of stuff). But anyway, that was all long ago. Today, this year, and the last 8 years, I've seen you all, up close and personal. I got to tell you, from the Administration, the instructional staff, to folks in the horn and drum line, the color guard, the honor guard, the majors, from top to bottom, this organization, TODAYS Blessed Sacrament Golden Knights Drum and Bugle Corps is a FIRST RATE CLASS ACT, as fine as you will find anywhere, with good people woven throughout. I just want to say that I'm very honored to have gotten to know you all over the last (or shall I say first) 8 years, and look forward to the next 8, 18, 28... years or however many more are left in this horn. You all, We all, should be very proud of what we have here. Happy New Year and Good Luck in 1999. |

The guy who is calling himself "Mickey" Ruth is obviously an imposter! For example, he claims that he remembers taking out the garbage with me in Wildwood. Actually, we WERE the garbage! The last time I knew anyone called Mickey in Wildwood, he disappeared with two French-Canadian babes and was never seen again. And he should stop saying bad things about my cousin Ted, or else he better be careful when he opens his mail... Well, there was a guy named Mickey who used to play the flag back in the old days. I sure would like to hear from him. I figure that there could be a chance to get back the 5 bucks I loaned him in 1968. Just in case it might be the same person who disappeared with those two French chicks, I'll just sign off as Le Craze |

I do a search on Drum Corps for the fun of it and find that my old corps has a web page. And, Danny Murphy is the Director! He played contra bass when I marched with BS back between 1964 and early 1967. I haven't checked out all of the categories yet. Although, I did check out the roster. Hoped to see more familiar names. Certainly recognized the Duhiggs and Leonharts ( I'd guess these are offspring). For those of you who don't remember ( and who wouldn't after, let's see, about 30 plus years, I played snare drum with my idol, friend and mentor Rocco Nardelli and Bill Lundy. George Brown came later, along with the Hurley brothers. I could write a novel in this little space.......but, I won't. I sure hope I hear from someone. I'd love to know how some of the guys who marched during my time are doing. This is really great. I will be a frequent visitor. Would love to get back on that gold Ludwig snare drum. But, 3000 miles is just a little too far to comute to rehearsals. Long live the Golden Knights!!! Regards, Bob Love |

No one ever took the field like Sac. You could feel the cockiness yet love the spirit and showmanship. I for one would like to see it come back. Also I like other Alumni of this Great corp. see what the Bridgemen are attempting and believe it to be a step in the right direction. Why not bring back the Greatest Names in Drum Corps. History. Back to thier Glory and at the same time give the activity a much needed shot in the arm . There are plenty of others that would like to see this also happen and plenty of help is to be had. Just by sounding off the horns watch how come a running. I am truly enjoying this page. Now lets start a junior corp. again. Oh Yeah put in some more of the old pictures from the Championship Years. Thanks Joe N Jersey. |

The only differance from the corp of the past and now is the gray hairs[or no hair at all] and the pot bellies. |

Good to see some familiar old timers are still involved, such as "Yanoosh and Emma" Demko and Don "Intro"donato. Bill Pusey played some great solos. I wonder if Al Cohen still wears white bucks... I also wonder how many people know how Danny Murphy got his scar. I hope some of the other old timers find out about this page and contact each other. SAC is back, but did it ever really leave our hearts and memories? I can still remember fragments of some of the States in Wildwood (mostly some of those rare and brief periods of sobriety). I welcome messages from any who want to write and get re-aquainted. Keep on keepin' on! P.S.- I gave up collecting ears a long time ago... In Your Heart... -Crazy |

I was a member of the Boston Crusaders.(1969,70 & 71) I was glad to hear that Blessed Sac had organized an alumni corps. I'm going to the DCA finals in Allentown and will also attend the alumni show....I am aware that St.Joes will be there and also the non-other than the "Boston Crusaders" but I was told that BSGK wouldn't....Is that true?????? *SAD*....This year will truely be a reunion for me since I haven't seen most of the guys since the late 70S Well I got my two cents in and hope to see you all in the near future Good Luck Tom (Roadmonkey) Giove BAC |

I was in drum corp from the 5th grade until I was drafted in l966.I was in the best drum line in the east, the Saint Patrick's Cadets of Jersey City. I learned to drum from the great Bobby Thompson. We consistantly beat SAC, Garfield etc. in drumming but always wound up 4th as a corp. We rarely won but boy do I have a lot of great memories. This is a great page. I'll be back. |

Time: 1998-08-13 19:00:21 Comments: I never thought I'd see the day when I was so happy to see the Golden Knights' colorful uniforms. It's been over 30 years!!! Back in the 60's I marched with St. Lucy's Cadets from Newark and competed with Blessed Sacrement. I loved your music then and still listen to it now. If you know where I can buy old recordings that have been transfered to tape or CD, let me know. Say hi to Danny Murphy for me. He may not remember who I am but remind him we whipped his butt in a friendly football game. I've been living in Florida for the past 25 years and don't get to see much drum corps. So here I am surfing the net and I find you guys. If I'm ever back in N.J. I'd love to see your corps. Thanks for a bit of nastalgia. |

Bob and I were in St. Patrick's Cadets in the early 60's. We competed against you guys (we never beat you, but we sure had fun). Our drum line was surpurb but we lacked a good horn line (Of course, the color guard was outstanding). Lots of luck for the rest of the season!! |

You really know how to turn it on when it counts... you always have. I thought it was the 'BALLZ'. You guys are a real class act... and you sure know how to party...can we hear that tape again? I want to send a special thank you to Brian Beckmeyer and his lovely wife Laura for a Friday night Eddie Hayward and I will always remember. Everything was perfect!!! And to Danny, Timmy, Maureen and Dennis (ok, so I look like George Castanza) thanks for the memories, stories and keeping us laughing. I felt so proud playing in your soprano line. I'd put you guys up against anybody. And to Rocky...you sure kicked some ass and lifted everybody's level when you played your solos...nice job. See you at Reilly's on the 22nd. Buzzy |

Brings back many wonderful memories of my times with St. Pat's of Jersey City. A superb percussion section which never got the chance to play with a championship brass section - though we HAD FUN ! Still have some Stetson Richmond tapes including 63 GK at Union City - just a superb sound and show. GK ranks in my all-time top 10 list with the current kinpins - Blue Devils and others. Ah Memories ! Thanks. One last point - consider a tribute on your page to the cultivator of your great drumlines - the late great Bobby Thompson - one of the true all-time movers and shakers ( GK, St. Pat's, Syracuse ) |

The last time I heard from Blessed Sac was in 1970 VFW Nationals. I marched with the Black Knights from Belleville Illinois in 1971 where we finished 12th in Finals. That was my next to last show ever. I have enjoyed some of the old "fleetwood" recordings. I wish they were still around. There was a lot of good music recorded on their label and I would like to have some of them back. Good to know you are still alive. All my best for continued success. Jim Morgan |

I was in the Woodsider Color Guard from Newark. It was great reading all the history and listening to "InThe Still of The Night" it was always my favorite. But you should also put the music for "It Was Just One of Those Things". We use to hear that song a lot because whenever Blessed Sacrament would win they would play that song in retreat!! And since they would always win needless to say we would hear it at every retreat!!!! Great site.... |

J. Drolsum Website: Referred by: Word of Mouth From: Denver, Colorado Time: 1998-05-22 09:58:31 Comments: I remember "Blessed Sac" from when I was a kid playing/marching in the Purple Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, Rockford, Illinois. I'm sure I saw them compete at one of the National Championships I attended. I'll never forget that drum line of theirs!! From there I went on to Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa, and became the drum instructor to the Colt 45. Drum and Bugle Corps from 1967 to 1973. I remember in the early 60's buy LP's of Blessed Sacrament (I'm sure I still have them somewhere) and listing to them for hours on my old phonograph! Looking back, I'm sure Blessed Sacrament was the" state of the art" for Drum Corps in the 1960's and set the standard that was adopted by such Chicago Corps as The Vanguard, The Cavaliers and The Royal Airs. This goes back a ways! Needless to say, "Blessed Sac" had an influence on my life! Thank You!! Dan Drolsum |
