1952 Holy Name Parade
up        previous  next

Blessed Sacrament marching in the Holy Name Parade, October, 1952.  Notice the old shakos, the snare and tenor drums of different sizes, the lack of bibs on the blouses, and the sign on the Essex House Hotel for 'Stevenson" (Adlai Stevenson) - who ran unsuccessfully against Eisenhower in the Presidential election, November of 52.  (Trivia:  Stevenson captured only nine states, with the electoral vote tally 442 to 89. Defeated, Stevenson said that he felt as Abraham Lincoln had on a similar occasion: "like a little boy who had stubbed his toe in the dark -- he was too old to cry, but it hurt too much to laugh.")
